Grasping at Straws, 2021

This Processing sketch was coded to distort a video file to resemble the fumbling recovery of memory. The user may warp the video manually using the sliders and buttons on the screen to adjust pixelation size, density, and speed of generation. As the user works to render the image as clear as possible through the process of trial and error, imagery is layered and obfuscated, thus mimicking the fragile untangling of our pasts.

This is a Disaster, 2021

An interactive visual piece about natural disasters coded using p5.js. The user toggles between audio and TV reporting on natural disasters and “cubes” of the same footage vibrating onscreen at increasing velocity and density. As the frame becomes increasingly agitated, so too does the viewer overwhelmed by the surplus of stimuli. In this piece, I aim to confront the ever-looming climate crisis and confront the notion that such crises can be contained or prevented.
