About
Nina Criswell’s work investigates the built environment as it relates to censorship of the body. Her primary medium is oil painting, although she has an educational background in architecture and computer science.
Her most recent work layers intimate and disfigured images of the body over public spaces that reside within a cultural subconscious. Through her layered paintings and sculptural works, she explores the integration of the pleasure-seeking body into the public sphere, questioning its impact on bodily privacy and autonomy. These layerings speak to how the body is relegated and nullified to conform to the masses and how these systems are continuously challenged and dismantled.
She is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
